Work included removal of (90) existing light poles and (82) foundations, along with installation of (32) roadway lighting poles, (7) high mast towers (100’, 120’, and 140’), (10) control cabinets, (51) handholes, and over (23,000 LF) of electrical circuits.
The ITS scope included installation of fiber optic and communication infrastructure, including over (4,000 LF) of fiber optic cabling, underground conduit systems installed via trenching and boring, and associated cabinets, transformer power connections. Work also included removal of existing ITS systems and infrastructure, including pull boxes, camera poles, and conduit within levee-critical zones requiring specialized grouting and backfill procedures.
Traffic signing work included removal of (4) existing overhead sign structures and installation of new systems including (1) dynamic message sign (DMS) with support structure and multiple overhead sign trusses ranging from 85’ to 125’ spans. Additional work included installation of over (8,500 SF) of Type B guide signage, delineators, object markers, and construction of reinforced concrete foundations for sign structures.
The lighting scope included installation of temporary flood lighting systems, drilled shaft foundations constructed using wet slurry methods in sandy soils with high groundwater, and full integration with new and existing electrical systems.
The project also included installation of (1) traffic signal systems at the I‑29 ramp and NB Rail Ave intersection, featuring mast arm poles, radar detection, GPS Opticom preemption, LED signal heads, and full controller systems with battery backup. Temporary signals were installed and maintained during staged construction.
Additional work included bridge-integrated conduit systems, removal and reconstruction of electrical infrastructure within levee-critical areas, and coordination of staged construction operations requiring numerous lane and shoulder closures across the corridor.
