The project included removal of (97) light poles and foundations, installation of (155) roadway lighting poles, (9) high mast towers (100’, 130’, and 140’), (28) control cabinets, (125) handholes, and over (56,000 LF) of electrical circuits.
The ITS scope included extensive fiber optic and communications infrastructure, including over (38,000 LF) of fiber optic cabling (12‑, 24‑, 96‑, and 144‑count), along with more than (26,000 LF) of conduit systems installed via trenching and boring methods, including specialized installation within levee-critical zones requiring enhanced compaction and protection measures.
Traffic signing work included removal of (8) overhead sign structures and installation of new systems including (2+) dynamic message signs (DMS), multiple overhead trusses ranging from 70’ to 100’ spans, and installation of over (11,000 SF) of Type B guide signage. Work also included installation of mast arm sign structures, breakaway post systems, and reinforced concrete foundations for sign supports.
The project also included installation of (6) signalized intersections along the corridor, including Broadway and I‑29 ramp intersections, featuring mast arm poles, radar detection systems, GPS Opticom preemption, LED signal heads, and full controller systems with battery backup. (6) temporary signals were installed and maintained at multiple intersections during staged construction.
Additional work included installation of conduit systems embedded within bridge structures and barrier rails, underdeck lighting, drilled shaft foundations constructed using wet slurry methods in high groundwater conditions, and coordination of extensive staged construction requiring over 100 lane closures across multiple corridors and detour routes.
